Nurturing Plants.

Beauty starts with healthy skin

Dr. Hauschka skincare draws on the revitalising powers of nature, with each plant chosen specifically for what it brings to a formulation. Each formula is made with all the expertise and accuracy of a pharmaceutical manufacturer.

Held to a higher standard

WALA, our parent company, also manufactures genuine pharmaceutical medicines — the manufacturing processes behind Dr. Hauschka skincare are held to that same standard. We apply the same careful principles to the plants and extracts used in our skincare as we do for our medicines, with every ingredient chosen for how its specific properties contribute to a well-balanced formulation.

What sets medicinal plants apart

What makes a plant "medicinal," to us, usually comes down to it being a little unusual. An entirely ordinary specimen doesn't tell us much — it's the outliers that catch our interest: the plant that flowers at the wrong time of year, or thrives somewhere far too extreme for most things to survive. That kind of resilience takes real strength, and that strength is exactly what makes a plant worth calling medicinal. We work to capture these natural "superpowers" and put them to use in our natural cosmetics.

Where we source our plants

We draw heavily on nature's own resources when formulating Dr. Hauschka skincare. In order of preference, our plants come from:
- Our own medicinal herb garden, grown to biodynamic standards
- Sonnenhof, our Demeter-certified farm
- Ecological cultivation partnerships, regional where possible, or further afield when a plant simply won't grow in our climate
- Wild harvesting in the Swabian Jura

A working garden, not a show garden

Wherever possible, the medicinal plants in our skincare come from our own herb garden - tucked directly behind WALA's original building in Eckwälden, at the foot of the Swabian Jura. It's shaped by natural rhythms rather than neat rows, functioning as a closed ecosystem with genuine room left for wilderness. It's a proper oasis, and one we're happy to share: we run regular guided tours for anyone visiting the region.
